Michael Turner

Michael Turner
Michael Turner
Fiction Writer, Creative Writing Tutor & Vocabulary Specialist

Biography

Michael Turner discovered the power of precise word choice when he was revising his first novel manuscript and realised that every flat passage shared one common problem: the words were accurate but inert. They described what happened without making the reader feel it. That realisation sent his back to studying language with new purpose — not grammar rules, but the emotional and sensory texture of individual words.

Michael created Synonymisation to give writers a vocabulary resource that thinks the way writers think. Not “what word means the same thing?” but “what word creates the right feeling in this exact moment?” He holds a degree in Creative Writing and Literature and has had short fiction published in several independent literary journals. He is currently working on his second novel while continuing to write, teach, and expand the vocabulary guides on Synonymisation.

Since then, Michael has taught creative writing at workshop level for more than ten years, working with writers ranging from beginners drafting their first short story to experienced novelists preparing manuscripts for submission. He has a particular interest in how word choice shapes reader experience — the difference between a scene that is read and a scene that is felt.
